Senior Photography | Clear Lake, Iowa
Shaelyn came into her senior session with ideas, plenty of outfits, and a few fun extras she wanted to work in along the way. From downtown streets and the beach to the FFA farm, we were able to capture so many different pieces of her senior year in one session.
And somehow, I think we got just about everything. (It definitely helped that she was so easygoing through all of it.)
We started her senior session around downtown Clear Lake, Iowa, where we were able to create a wide variety of looks without having to travel far between locations. Shaelyn brought several outfit changes, so her mom and sister were all hands on deck helping with quick swaps and keeping everything moving. We mixed in classic senior portraits with a few of her own ideas, including Class of 2026 balloons and a flower bouquet for a simple added touch.
One of my favorite things about senior sessions is when students come prepared with ideas, but are also willing to go with the flow. Shaelyn was exactly that. We could move from one look to the next, try something new, and keep going without anything feeling overly planned or forced.
From downtown, we headed to Clear Lake State Park Beach for a completely different look. Her dad met us there with the family dog so we could include him in a few photos too. Between the water, soft evening light, and another outfit change, the beach added a lighter, more relaxed feel to the gallery before we headed out for the final part of the evening.
We finished the session at the FFA farm, where we incorporated more of the activities and interests that have been part of Shaelyn’s high school years. With so much going on, I really wanted this part of the session to feel personal to her rather than simply checking items off a list.
And then there was the cow. He was not particularly interested in participating in senior photos and made that very clear pretty quickly. Thankfully, we had another helper at the farm, worked fast, got the shot, and decided not to push our luck. (Sometimes you get the photo and call it a win.)
To finish the evening, we headed into the field for the last bit of sunset light. After a session filled with outfit changes, activities, props, animals, and plenty of ideas, ending with something simple in the open field felt like the perfect way to wrap everything up.
Senior sessions in Clear Lake can include so much variety, from downtown streets and the lake to locations connected to a student’s activities and interests.
Shaelyn’s session felt completely her, and I loved getting to bring so many different pieces of her senior year together in one gallery.
